La Teología Bíblica Sistemática es entendida como el discurso sistemático, metódico y hermenéutico sobre la fe cristiana que es vivida según la praxis en la Iglesia Católica. No obstante el carácter confesional de esta teología, no se opone a una comprensión y actitud ecuménica que habitan el seno de su propio discurso.

La teología cristiana es el conjunto de creencias del cristianismo, las cuales están basadas fundamentalmente en la Biblia. Para los cristianos, tales creencias son consideradas «verdades fundamentales».

Los métodos usados, los tópicos estudiados y sus disciplinas son semejantes a las otras teologías de las principales confesiones cristianas, algo que tiene mucho que ver con su base común.

Pero su interpretación de las verdades reveladas y posterior definición de las doctrinas presentan diferencias en relación a sus congéneres cristianas, especialmente en la cuestión de la veneración de los santos y de la Virgen María, de la justificación, de la infalibilidad y primacía del Papa, de la noción de verdadera Iglesia de Cristo, de la composición de los cánones de la Biblia y de la validez de la Tradición oral.

Dentro de esta teología se encuentra también la teología sistemática, la teología bíblica o exegética, la teología práctica y la teología histórica.

Teología sistemática, es una disciplina de la teología cristiana, cuyo fin es formular una coherente, ordenada y racional presentación de la fe y creencias cristianas, inherentes a un sistema de pensamiento teológico que se desarrolla con un método, que puede aplicarse tanto en lo general y como en lo particular. Si bien una teología sistemática debe tener en cuenta los textos sagrados de su fe, también debe mirar a la historia, la filosofía, la ciencia, la ética.

Clásicamente la teología sistemática se divide en la doctrina de la Palabra de Dios, la doctrina de Dios, la doctrina del Hombre, la doctrina de Cristo, la doctrina del Espíritu Santo, la doctrina de la Redención, la doctrina de la Iglesia y la doctrina del futuro, en esta teología se puede mencionar como representante principal a Martin Lutero.

La Teología Bíblica Sistemática se nutre de la convicción de que la praxis vivida por la comunidad de fe en Jesús Cristo es el acceso a la manifestación singular de Dios que constituye el objeto de reflexión teológica cristiana.

La teología no sería posible fuera de la Palabra de Dios o de la Revelación de Dios, por eso ésta es más una hermenéutica que una dogmática. La fundamentación de la Teología Sistemática pasa por la Tradición y, por eso mismo, es de carácter bíblico.
