Surat Yasin termasuk surat Makkiyah yang agung. Bilangan ayatnya terdiri dari 83 ayat. Ayat-ayatnya pendek dan sangat mengena di hati orang-orang mukmin yang membacanya.
Salah satu tradisi yang sering dilakukan setiap malam jum'at yaitu membaca Surat Yasin. Biasanya Surat Yaasiin dibaca ba'da sholat magrib sholat magrib, baik dibaca secara berjama'ah di masjid dan/atau di mushola maupun dibaca sendirian di rumah masing-masing. Selain itu juga, Surat Yasin juga selalu dibaca ketika ada seseorang yang pulang ke rahmatullah. Dari beberapa pengamalan surat yasin tersebut tentu ada fadhilah fdhilah, hikmah dan keutamaan surat yasin yang sangat besar dan luar biasa.
Menurut sabda Nabi Muhammad saw, siapa membaca surah Yaasiin(Yasin) satu kali, sama dengan membaca Alqur’an sampai khatam (selesai) sepuluh kali, barang siapa membiasakan membaca surah Yaasiin setiap malam sampai mati, maka termasuk dalam mati syahid.
Jika membaca suart yasing pada waktu pagi, maka memperoleh kegembiraan sampai sore, dan jika membaca surat yasin disore hari maka dapat gembira sampai pagi hari.
