WIT Timetables & Room Information, Updated Weekly

(There was little time and opportunity to test parts of this app on different devices, such as the user interface, so for a short time things may look odd (over/undersized/disappearing text etc), and act strange (screen lag, app crash, possible issue with FB login on some devices etc), updates will be pushed regularly in response to feedback, feel free to add some through the contact form in the app, or by emailing [email protected])

Timetables

Free:Time WIT offers timetable information for over 470 Waterford Institute of Technology courses, updated weekly to reflect any changes WIT make. Features of the timetables area include:

  • 5 Day Layout: timetables are sorted into 5 different screens, rather than 1 long list, screens are navigated by swiping left/right

  • Current Day First: the app reads the current day from the device and displays that days timetable screen first

  • Free Periods: timetables are analysed as they are loading, any rows containing a free period have their backgrounds changed and have a selection of rooms free at that period inserted, 3 computer rooms and 3 general rooms

  • Search Timetables: press the ? icon to enter a course title/code, after 3 characters have been entered suggestions will be displayed, or open the Options panel and use the drop-down boxes to filter and load timetables

  • Save Timetable: save a timetable to load automatically in future by opening the Options panel and activating the 'Default Timetable' switch, to remove it just deactivate the switch

  • Select Groups: some course timetables are made up of many student groups, bloating timetables with classes not relevant to you, once a default timetable has been saved it's possible to select individual groups from the drop-down box in the Options panel, any timetable row containing one of these groups will change to have a green background

Free Rooms

WIT room timetables are extracted from their site each week, and analysed to find any free periods they have, which are saved to the Free:Time WIT cloud database. This collection is then filtered to remove rooms not located at the Cork Road campus or College Street campus, and filtered again to remove any limited use rooms (music rooms, dark room, engineering labs etc.).
Features of the free rooms area include:

  • Save Room: any room presented can be saved to your account by pressing the ☆ icon in the rooms row, this room will then be displayed in your timetable alongside the details for the class/free period at that time

  • Current Period First: the app reads the current day and time from the device to determine which rooms to display, automatically showing rooms that are free now

  • Search Time Periods: press the ? icon in the title bar, or press/slide up the Options button to access the search area, select a day and time to load rooms that are free at that period

  • Filter Rooms: press/slide up the Options button to access the filter buttons, allowing you to limit the results to only rooms located at College Street or Cork Road
