This App for augmented reality simulation works with UpSim Neurosurgical Box: upsim.upsurgeon.com.
UpSim is the first hybrid simulation system for neurosurgical training. It is composed by two elements which work together. The App, UpSim AR, and the physical simulator, UpSim Neurosurgical Box.
The AR simulation changes depending by the AR you shoot. E.g. Different PERFORM or EXPLORE kits contain different AR markers. The same App opens a specific AR scene for EACH AR marker.

How to use UpSim AR
Put UpSim Neurosurgical Box on its base, then apply the fisical AR marker and start AR simulation of patient positioning, craniotomy overviews and surgical approaches on your mobile device.
This function immediately allows you to project the entire virtual rendering of the head or other parts onto UpSim Neurosurgical Box as it was in an operating room. In this way you can visualize the craniotomy and the target you have chosen. You can also observe the craniotomy from different perspectives just by moving the mobile device or by rotating the box on its base. This will speed up your 3D imagination.

Rationale
One of the most complex aspect of training as neurosurgeon is apprehend tridimensional regional anatomy of the brain and skull base. In other words, it’s hard to perfectly address intracranial structures and automatically finding targets, especially when they are deep-seated. This aspect is fundamental in order to choose and design the right craniotomy which allows a straightforward corridor to the target.

Get UpSim Neurosurgical Box (upsim.upsurgeon.com) and download the app.
Using the AR you can now observe how to perform a step by step opening before approaching soft tissues under microscope.
