Nau mai, tahuti ma! Welcome to our #1Miriona, a tool to help you prepare your pepeha. It’s aimed at helping learners of te reo Māori to get started and build confidence to speak Māori.

We’ve created #1miriona as a social media campaign to engage a million supporters of the Māori language with te reo Māori content that people like, create and share online.

A pepeha is a statement of identity. It’s a tribal saying and how Māori introduce themselves on the marae or in a Māori setting, yet it’s a formula that can be used by all people. Some say pepeha can be seen as an ancient Global Positioning System (GPS) devised by our ancestors, linking us to significant landmarks that connect us to our tribal roots.

This App will help you to construct your pepeha, assist you with pronunciation, and allow you to record and publish when you’re confident to share. Mauri Ora! Nā Te Māngai Pāho.

“E ora ai te reo - whiua ki te ao.” “For the language to survive - share it with the world.”
