Sankranti is especially noted as a festival of muggulu. With the advent of Dhanur masam (month of Dhanur) every street is covered with beautifully decorated with colourful muggulu. Every courtyard is adored with vibrant kolam designs. These are also called mandana, Chowkpurana, Alpana, Aripana, Howk pujan or Golam kolam in different languages and states of India.
