The air pollution is getting serious in Taiwan and this issue has raised people concern about our environment and health, therefore we design this app to help people protect themselves.
Particles less than 2.5 micrometers are believed to pose the greatest health risks. Because of their small size (approximately 1/30th the average width of a human hair), fine particles can lodge deeply into the lungs, causing a wide range of illnesses and mortality, including cancer, stroke and damage to unborn children.
Sources of fine particles include all types of combustion activities (motor vehicles, power plants, wood burning, etc.) and certain industrial processes. Particles with diameters between 2.5 and 10 micrometers are referred to as "coarse." Sources of coarse particles include crushing or grinding operations, and dust from paved or unpaved roads. Other particles may be formed in the air from the chemical change of gases.

*What is AQI?
Air quality index (AQI) is an international index for air quality. The higher index, the higher risk to health. The AQI calculates six pollutants (including SO2, NO2, PM10, PM2.5, O3 and CO).
The EPA of Taiwan adopts PSI, which is outdated and maybe not suitable in nowadays. The difference between AQI and PSI is that PSI does not including PM2.5.
Taiwan AQI app collects data from EPA of Taiwan and processes the data with the US Environmental Protection Agency formula; the index is more close to the real air condition.
