Interpretation of the Great Qur’an, known as “Tafsir Ibn Kathir,” by Imam Imad al-Din Abi al-Fida Ismail bin Kathir al-Qurashi al-Dimashqi, known as Ibn Kathir (died 774 AH), is one of the most famous Islamic books concerned with the science of the interpretation of the Noble Qur’an, and it is considered one of the most famous of what was written on the subject of interpretation with the adage. Ibn Kathir did not specify the date of his beginning in writing this commentary, nor the date of its completion, but some deduce the era in which he composed it based on a number of evidence; Of which:
He composed more than half of the exegesis in the life of his sheikh al-Mazzi (died 742 AH), based on the fact that he mentioned his sheikh al-Mazzi when interpreting Surat al-Anbiya and prayed for him for a long life.
Abdullah Al-Zayla’i (died 762 AH) quoted him in his book Takhreej Ahadith al-Kashshaf, which indicates that it was spread before the year 762 AH.
It is likely that he finished the interpretation on Friday, 10 Jumada al-Thani 759 AH, when it came in the Meccan version, which is considered the oldest copy, and he came with the latest: “The last book of the virtues of the Qur’an and with it the interpretation was completed by the great scholar, the journey, the Jahbd, Mufid al-Talibin, Sheikh Imad al-Din Ismail, famous for Ibn Kathir, At the hands of the poorest of servants to God, the Rich, Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muammar al-Maqri al-Baghdadi, may God forgive him and benefit him with knowledge, and grant him success to act upon it.
