Staircase Storage Design

How long have you tried to solve that problem with storage and organization under your stairs? Just plain boxes aren't a good solution because you forget what is in them. Piling stuff in there has no order and is embarrassing so you cover is up with a curtain or even put a door under there to hide the mess.

Picture a filling type system with raised panels on the ends to keep everything organized but still looks great!

I am talking about building simple book shelves and putting casters on them so you can pull them out and in as you please and making panels to put on the ends of the " bookshelves" so when they are shut, they appear to be raised panels under your stairs, giving you that elegant look anyone can appreciate!

I recently built one for my In laws. What I did to make everything easier for myself was take accurate measurements of the space. I measured the heights of both ends, the width, and measured the depth. I put a level on the floor to see if the floor was close to level. That step is very important! If your floor is out of level bad and you don't take in account for that, getting the panels to line up will be extremely hard to do.

Once I got the exact measurements, I laid out the opening on my workshop floor with tape. In doing so I was able to get the precise measurements for the cabinets. I was able to use that to get the accurate measurements for the end panels as well. I was also able to use the layout to figure spacing between each cabinet and spacing with the panels. Believe me, if I hadn't laid it out on the floor first, I wouldn't have been able to do the build at my shop. Plus, being able to visualize it, it allowed me to plan ahead better.

By making a storage system like this, it allows you to be organized, it adds great storage space to your home, and when closed no one can tell that you have shelving under your stairs. The best part, it looks absolutely fantastic.
