Propofol is one of the most commonly wasted drugs in the operating theatre. It is extremely toxic to aquatic environment, bioaccumulates up the food chain and is not readily degraded in nature. Propofol Dreams is a simple App designed to help anaesthetists minimise propofol wastage during TIVA.
Propofol Dreams has two main modes:
Volume Estimation mode approximates the volume of propofol required for a given case using patient weight, anticipated surgical duration and required depth of anaesthesia based on the Marsh model. This mode guides the volume of propofol one should draw up before beginning a case. The Paediatric mode guides volume calculations for children aged 16 years and under, using the Paedfusor model.
Duration Estimation mode approximates the anaesthesia time that a 20 mL vial or 50 mL bottle of propofol will provide at a given infusion rate. This mode guides how much propofol one should draw up towards the end of a case.
