Praise music or Contemporary worship music is a music classification that is somewhat vague or loose, belongs to the Christian music genre, and is utilized primarily in contemporary worship. Contemporary worship music had its origins back in the 1950s and 1960s in the United States and in some other parts of the globe. The Taizé Community in France started to draw in youthful crowds from among several religious groups in the early 1950s - they were primarily attracted by modern melodies mixed with the worship hymns. The style helped break away from the stereotype that church music was boring, formal and too structured, and thus it garnered appeal with the broader set of the younger generation.
Churches spread the teachings of the bible through groups of amateur musicians who sang Christian lyrics, and eventually it caught media attention. The Joystrings is one of the first Christian pop groups that have made the scene and shown up on television. A variety of churches - Western churches like Pentecostal churches, as well as a medley of Charismatic Protestant churches - use Praise music. Wherever they are used, praise music used in any church has little to no bearing on the church’s theological ideology or type (liberal, conservative, or moderate).
