PestSmart Diagnostic Simulator

PestSmart Diagnostic Simulator is a mobile training game that complements CABI’s PestSmart Diagnostics eLearning course.

Registered Plant Doctors in the Plantwise programme (www.plantwise.org) and PestSmart users can select Sign Up and Log In to access the full simulator.

If you are neither of these, a Demo Mode is available to all by selecting "Play" in simulator. This allows you to test your plant pest and disease investigation and diagnosis skills through seven novice level scenarios. Scores and progression in Demo Mode are lost when the game is closed.

PestSmart Diagnostic Simulator supports and reinforces investigation and diagnosis skills of users through engaging gameplay and real time feedback. The game utilises simulated observation, inspection and deductive reasoning skills combined with prior PestSmart knowledge to build confidence and competence in plant pest and disease diagnosis.

The user should improve accuracy and quality in:

+ Observing plant part specimens
+ Inspecting and describing symptoms
+ Associating symptoms to problems
+ Eliminating unlikely problems
+ Accurately diagnosing problems based on symptoms

The user will perform investigation and diagnosis of many plant problems in 3D simulated scenarios. The focus is on the core techniques used by plant health professionals in diagnosing common plant health problems.

User actions and decisions are recorded and scored. Users will receive performance feedback on inspection and diagnosis scores. A competence ranking will be given at the end of each scenario level. Once a competence ranking is gained, more level scenarios are unlocked and the user can progress further through the game. User data is recorded into an online database and scores are ranked on a competitive leaderboard both globally and nationally.
