Pink Floyd was formed in Cambridge in 1964 by Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Rick Wright, and Syd Barrett. The initial name of the group is actually Tea Set but since there is already a group that uses this name, the group name was later replaced by Pink Floyd which took the names of two blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

Their first album sold pretty good despite not getting platinum. The album titled THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN is considered the best British psychedelic album. The songs in this album take a lot of surreal themes are packed in poetic lyrics which later became the hallmark of Pink Floyd.

Overall Pink Floyd songs are categorized as difficult to digest. Their experiments with sound sometimes sound very strange and difficult to understand.

Their 8th and 9th albums, each titled THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and WISH YOU WERE HERE are considered music critics as their 2nd masterpiece album although in sales figures have not been able to match their 11th album THE WALL. The WALL album won 23 platinum in sales figures.

The WALL album is full of social and political criticism. The album released in 1979 was later released in a DVD format starring Bob Geldof. The same album was released again but performed by many artists to celebrate the collapse of the Berlin Wall.

After releasing 14 studio albums and personnel entry, they released their last album THE DIVISION BELL 1994 with David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason formations. They entered the ranks of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in early 1996.
