Mountains are much bigger than hills, the biggest mountains can be seen from miles away.

Although there is not a set definition for a mountain, the United Kingdom government says they are over 600 metres (1,968 feet) high. Any lower and it’s called a hill. Mountains can often be found together with forest in what is called a mountain range. An example of a mountain range is the Himalayas in Asia which is home to the 14 tallest mountains on Earth, including the tallest - Mount Everest. Another example of a mountain range is the Alps in Europe, where lots of people enjoy skiing. Maybe one of the most incredible sights on Earth, though, is a majestic mountain range. From the Himalayas to the Rocky Mountains, there’s just something about those tall, craggy peaks that stirs the soul, not even mention waterfall that usually nearby. Many mountains were formed as a result of Earth’s tectonic plates smashing together.

The Earth’s crust is made up of multiple tectonic plates that still move today as a result of geologic activity below the surface. When two tectonic plates converge, their edges can crumple kind of like an aluminum can does when you crush it. The result of these tectonic plates crumpling is huge slabs or rock being pushed up into the air. Mountains can also form along natural fault lines. These are places in Earth’s crust where tectonic plates grind against each other.
