(1) El Mecano español comenzó como banda de synth-pop en Madrid (España). Los hermanos Nacho y José María Cano, junto con la cantante Ana Torroja, formaron la banda en 1981. El debut de Mecano coincidió con La Movida Madrileña, un movimiento sociocultural que ocurrió en España durante los años 80.

Poco después de formarse, lograron una amplia popularidad con su single de debut, "Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar". Nacho Cano se diversificó en la producción de otras bandas, y tanto él como su hermano escribieron canciones para otros pop-up. Mecano tuvo otro éxito en 1986 con "Me Cuesta Tanto Olvidarte". En 1991, los miembros de la banda decidieron emprender carreras solistas.

Antes de su éxito internacional en 1986, Mecano tuvo tres álbumes exitosos en España y Europa. Sin embargo, no fue hasta el lanzamiento de su álbum de 1986, Entre el Cielo y el Suelo que lograron un éxito internacional más allá del mundo de habla hispana. Una de sus canciones más importantes, "Hijo de la Luna", fue cubierta como una aria por uno de los mejores cantantes contemporáneos de la ópera, Montserrat Caballé. Su álbum de seguimiento, Descanso Dominical, produjo su single más grande jamás visto, "Mujer Contra Mujer", que trata de una relación lesbiana, vista a través de los ojos de un amigo varón, que sólo más tarde se da cuenta de lo que está pasando. La canción fue grabada en francés, inglés e italiano, dando a Mecano su primer éxito verdaderamente global.

(1) The Spanish Mecano began as synth-pop band in Madrid (Spain). The Nacho and José María Cano brothers, along with singer Ana Torroja, formed the band in 1981. Mecano's debut coincided with La Movida Madrileña, a sociocultural movement that occurred in Spain during the 80s.

Shortly after forming, they achieved widespread popularity with their debut single, "Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar". Nacho Cano diversified into the production of other bands, and he and his brother wrote songs for other pop-up. Mecano had another hit in 1986 with "Me Cuesta Tanto Olvidarte". In 1991, the band members decided to embark on solo careers.

Prior to his international success in 1986, Mecano had three successful albums in Spain and Europe. However, it was not until the release of their 1986 album Between Heaven and Land that achieved international success beyond the Spanish-speaking world. One of his most important songs, "Son of the Moon" was covered as an aria by one of the best contemporary opera singers, Montserrat Caballe. His follow-up album, Descanso Dominical, produced his biggest single ever seen, "Woman Against Women," about a lesbian relationship, seen through the eyes of a male friend, who only later realizes what it is happening. The song was recorded in French, English and Italian, giving Mecano their first truly global success.
