Star Wars is an epic space opera and a franchise centered around a film series created by George Lucas. Consisting of two separate trilogies and an expanded universe of books, TV series, computer / video games and comic books, it has become a pop culture phenomenon. The galaxy consists of the Jedi and the Sith (their evil counterparts). The weapon of choice is the lightsaber. Jedi fiction consists of strong influences on philosophy and religion. The original release on May 25th, 1977 has become a major success indeed. There were too more Star Wars movies following, generally consisting of positive reviews with the last considered the weakest. All six of Star Wars main films in the series were nominated for or won Academy Awards.

Just about everything related to Star Wars was a huge success when it first came out, in 1977 a Star Wars disco theme became a number 1 hit for two weeks. It also launched some pretty important acting careers, Harrison Ford who played Han Solo was paid in total $10,000 for his performance for the original Star Wars, a small start for a huge career! To this day on a tiny island of Niue in the South Pacific you can use Star Wars collectible coins as real money. There are many popular alien species present in the Star Wars franchise "Ewoks" where a huge part of the 3rd original movie, however, the name "Ewok" is never said aloud.
