In het Zweedse dorpje Öregrund is een moord gepleegd. In het nieuwe RTL 4-programma ‘Kroongetuige’ kruipen negen BN’ers in de huid van rechercheur en proberen deze moord op te lossen. Het onderzoek
naar de moord wordt bemoeilijkt door één van de rechercheurs. Hij of zij weet wie het gedaan heeft en heeft zwijggeld gekregen. Deze ‘Kroongetuige’ zal er alles aan doen om het onderzoek van zijn of
haar collega rechercheurs te laten mislukken.
Aan het eind van elke aflevering maken de rechercheurs een proces verbaal; een verslag van het onderzoek tot dan toe, vol met details. Wie dat het minst goed doet, moet het programma verlaten. In de laatste aflevering moet eerst de ‘Kroongetuige’ worden ontmaskerd. Als dat lukt, moet daarna nog een wachtwoord worden ingevuld. Pas als dat juist is, kan de dader worden gearresteerd en gaat het zwijggeld niet naar de ‘Kroongetuige’ maar naar de winnaar.
