A Igreja Batista do Calvário é uma comunidade cristã evangélica batista, fundada em 9 de junho de 1966 por um grupo de cristãos com o interesse de expandir o evangelho em toda a terra.. Está filiada
à Convenção Batista Nacional.
A essência de nossa igreja é a congregação das pessoas que a compõem, mais um organismo vivo - que o Novo Testamento chama de corpo de Cristo - que uma organização-instituição religiosa. Nesta instituição nós adoramos a Deus, cuidamos das pessoas, prestamos serviços sociais à comunidade, desenvolvemos ministérios a toda a faixa etária, desde os bebês até a idade melhor.
A IBC quer ser um sinal histórico do reino de Deus. Cremos que o ministério da Igreja é extensão do ministério terreno de Jesus: “assim como o Pai me enviou ao mundo, eu também vos envio” (João 17:18; 20:21). Nesse caso, cremos que Jesus inaugurou o reino de Deus, isto é, começou a trazer de volta todo o Universo criado para o controle de fato e de direito de Deus. Com Jesus, a vontade de Deus começa a ser feita na terra, como é feita no céu (Mateus 6:10). A IBC quer poder dizer a mesma coisa que Jesus dizia aos seus contemporâneos: “o reino de Deus chegou até vocês” (Lucas 11:20).
