FlickKey does have a learning curve, so give it time to sink into your brain. (And try light quick flicks.) But once accustomed, you will find that you can type quicker and more accurately than you ever expected you could on a smartwatch. Note: FlickKey does not timeout and it stays on the screen by design - so you do not have to re-start the app if you pause typing. You need to either send your message, or exit the app when you are finished typing Otherwise, the screen will stay on and it will run down your battery!
