How it works:

Click microphone icon while a hearing person is speaking. The speech will be converted to text. To get correct words, place your device close to his/her mouth or ask him/her to speak out loud and clear. The hearing person can correct the words if the app does not get it right, in case the hearing person does not speak clearly or loud enough.

A deaf person can type his/her sentence and click talk button. The app will convert text to voice.

Click minus red circle icon when you want to start a new sentence. You can also shake your device, and the text will be deleted.

You can save sentences to your device's memory and reuse them again and again.

The app works with both smart phone and tablet that has Android 4+.

The speech recognition works both online and offline. In case the speech recognition does not work offline, you have to download offline language package to your device. See instruction under settings in the app. Please note that, not all the languages are available for download. If your language is not available for download, you need internet connection to make the speech-to-text works on your device.

If you want to match your gender with the voice source for text to speech function, just follow the steps described under settings menu in the app. Please note that not all the languages are available in both genders.

If Text to Speech does not work on your device, it can be because you do not have the voice data of the language you want and you have to download voice data to your device.

If you have any question or need help for making the app works on your device, please feel free to contact me via the app. Under More... menu, you will find an email icon, click on that icon and send me a message, feedback or suggestion. I will get back to you as soon as possible, within 24 hours.

PS: Several users have contacted me and suggested me to make a version of Deaf assistant that allows at least 2 devices to connect and communicate in the distance. I have considered that, but decided not to go further with the idea, as there are tons of chat program that allow you to connect devices and chat online. So Deaf assistant is just a simple tool for offline face-to-face communication.
