O soldadinho, é uma ave passeriforme da família Pipridae.
Também conhecido como tangará-rei, tangará-de-chifre, tangará-de-crista-vermelha,
tangará-chifrudo, dançarino-de-crista-vermelha e manaquim,
pertence a um dos grupos mais coloridos de aves das matas brasileiras, os piprídeos.
Várias espécies são da Amazônia e da Mata Atlântica.
Nome Científico
Seu nome científico significa: do (grego) antios = diferente,
e lophos, lophoeis = com crista; e do (latim) galeata, galeatum,
galeatus = com capacete, galea = elmo, capacete.
Características
Mede entre 13,9 e 14,5 centímetros de comprimento e pesa entre 18 e 26,5 gramas.
Como na maioria das espécies da família, o macho se destaca da fêmea apresentando acentuado dimorfismo sexual.
O macho da espécie possui uma vasta crista na coloração vermelho vivo na cabeça que vai desde
a fronte até o dorso da ave. O restante do corpo apresenta penas negras na face, garganta,
porção frontal do pescoço, peito, ventre e crisso. As asas, uropígio e cauda também são de coloração preta.
Na região da fronte, sobre o bico, um tufo de penas mais compridas e dirigidas para a frente tem um formato marcante,
originando o nome mais comum desta ave.
Alimentação
Esta espécie é altamente frugívora, especialista no tipo de tática de captura de frutos,
com diferença entre os sexos apenas na altura de forrageamento.
Alimentam-se também de pequenos insetos, capturados desde 1 metro do solo até a parte mais alta das árvores.
Reprodução
O macho acasala-se com pelo menos uma fêmea e mantém-se no território de reprodução ao longo de todo o ciclo.
Aparentemente a fêmea cuida da nidificação sozinha.
O macho não tem qualquer envolvimento com o choco e o cuidado da prole.
Os machos adultos são territoriais durante o ano todo,
com territórios exclusivos defendidos com cantos e perseguições,
afastando outros machos adultos em vôos de perseguição abaixo da copa.
Constroem o ninho no formato de uma cesta que é afixada a uma forquilha.

Hábitos
