Calypso (also called calypso) is the name of a musical genre originally from Trinidad and Tobago, very popular in the Antilles, Venezuela, the islands of San Andrés and Providencia in Colombia and much of the Caribbean coast of Central America. He is both Anglophone and Francophone. Spanish-speaking countries that practice it also include Spanish letters.

The sanandresano calypso of the islands of San Andrés and Providencia in Colombia, are commonly sung in English or in Creole, interpreted with instruments like the violin, the mandolin, the guitar, the carraca, the rebate and the maracas

The calypso Venezuelan or calypso of El Callao, sung traditionally in English, is made from a rhythmic drum of percussion based on the bumbac, accompanied by charrasca, bell or cowbell and four (kind of small guitar, typical of Venezuela)

Brega Pop is a rhythm of Paraense origin from Brazil, derived from the tacky. It obtains the influence of the regional rhythms of Pará, like the carimbó, guitarreada, Siriá and marujada. The main slope of the brega pop is the calypso (not the calypso music), known in Pará as brega calypso. The rhythm develops mainly in the city of Belém do Pará (due to population concentration), as public night events and nightclubs on the periphery gave way to street vendors to publicize the production of small local musicians. The lyrics of the songs express a range of sensations with a very youthful lyric.

Calypso interpreters and composers who have studied the musical culture of Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago and have memorized their traditional rhythms and structures to incorporate them into their music are known as Calypso (Calypso). The creativity of some of them makes them able to improvise a calypso from any subject, getting to compete among them in ad hoc sessions held during the carnival of Trinidad and since the fifties in organized competitions. At present one of the most famous calypsonians is the Costa Rican.

Although the calypso arose on the island of Trinidad, later it passed to its neighbor Tobago, it spread by the Caribbean and in each place acquired different characteristics. This sensual rhythm had great expansion in the decade of the thirties and in the forties was very widespread in the United States, Latin America and in the European continent.

The primitive companion consisted of a drum and a series of bottles filled with different amounts of water that was percutiated with a pair of spoons, the curious instrument was called bangee. Later on he was incorporated a pair of keys named-that, a type of maraca called chac-chac, a percussive of bamboo cane, the four of Venezuelan origin.
