The Body Mass index or BMI is an index that has been created to estimate your total amount of body fat. The Body Mass index is an approximation of the best weight for your health.
It is important to note that the BMI does not differentiate between body fat and muscle mass and as a result there are some exceptions to the BMI Guidelines.
Additionally, in people over the age of 74, your general health is generally more important than being slightly overweight and as such many researchers feel that a BMI of between 22 to 26 is acceptable.

• Under 18 - you are very underweight and possibly malnourished.
