क्यों कही गयी गीता?
जब रणक्षेत्र में अपने बंधु-बांधवों को अपने सामने देख गांडीवधारी अर्जुन शोकग्रस्त होकर नैराश्य की चरम सीमा पर पहुंच जाते हैं तब सर्वेश्वर भगवान श्रीकृष्ण उन्हें पुनः कर्तव्ययुत करने हेतु गीता दर्शन का साक्षात्कार करवाते हैं। गीता में मनुष्य़ की सभी समस्याओं का समाधान मठल जाता है क्योंकठ इसका सारभूत तत्व ही कर्ता वठहीन कर्म है। गीता का आरंभ धर्म से तथा अंत कर्म से होता है। गीता मनुष्य को प्रेरणा देती है। मनुष्य का कर्तव्य क्या है? इसी का बोध करवाना गीता का लक्ष्य है।
