Dieser Fragebogen ist in 21 Fragen mit je 4 Antwortmöglichkeiten unterteilt. Der Patient soll bei jeder Kategorie die zutreffendste Antwort auswählen. Nach der Beantwortung der Fragen erfolgt die Auswertung durch die App.
Zur Auswertung werden alle Werte der einzelnen Aussagen addiert und dann mit Grenzwerten (Cut-off-Werten) verglichen. Laut BDI weisen Werte zwischen 11 und 17 Punkten auf eine "milde bis mäßige Ausprägung depressiver Symptome" hin. Als klinisch relevant werden im BDI erst Werte von 18 und darüber gewertet, da dieser Werte zwei Standardabweichungen über dem Mittelwert von Gesunden liegt.
