Henry Ernest Dudeney was born 10 April 1857 in Mayfield, Sussex, England and died of throat cancer, 24 April 1930 in Lewes, Sussex, England

He was an English author and mathematician, specialising in logic puzzles and mathematical games. He was known as one of England's prominent
creators of puzzles.

Henry Ernest Dudeney grew up in a household Mathematicans. His grandfather was a shepherd who taught himself mathematics and astronomy. The Maths dominated his life, so much he left the sheep and became a schoolmaster in Lewes. henry father was school teacher. Henry's grandfather taught him to Chess at an early age, and he continued to playing throughout his life. This love of Chess led Dudeney to creating Chess problems and maths puzzles, by the age of 9 he getting his puzzles published in his local newspaper.

Although maths was his passion, he never attended college, he studied maths & history in own time.

Dudeney wrote:
"The history of mathematical puzzles entails nothing short of the actual story of the
beginnings and development of exact thinking in man."

Dudeney worked as a clerk in the Civil Service from the age of 13 but continued to study mathematics
and chess.Dudeney's first puzzle contributions were submissions to newspapers and magazines, often under
the pseudonym of "Sphinx." his earlier work was a collaboration with the American puzzlist Sam
Loyd; in 1890, they published a series on article in the English penny weekly Tit-Bits.

In 1917 Dudeney wrote Amusements in Mathematics. 430 math brain teasers.
