began in 1999 as a ceremony festival celebrating the top music videos of the year under the name MMF (Mnet Music Video Festival) in 2000, MKMF (Mnet KM Music Video Festival) in 2004, and has steadily grown and evolved to become Korea's representative music awards.
In 2009, MAMA took the step to go beyond the standard year-end award ceremonies to become Asia's representative music festival. In 2010, MAMA stepped out and held its first ceremony overseas, holding a successful ceremony in Macau, and went on to Singapore in 2011, Hong Kong in 2012 and 2014.
