Energy will be needed to construct buildings and combat fleets (the latter one is a future feature). Also You will now be able to use energy to improve your colonization starships’ characteristics. One boost will cost 1 energy and kicks in upon your next ship launch making its radar and engine 20% more efficient as well as requiring more population
