대전 도마 큰시장은 1970년대 버드내 일원에 자리잡은 피혁공장과 직물공장의 부흥과 함께 성장했다. 지금의 버드내아파트와 시장 건너편에 있는 직물공장, 방적공장 근로자,시민들이 귀가중 장 볼 만한 곳을 찾았고 자연스레 전통시장이 형성 되었다. 신선하고 값싼 농산물과 수산물,의류,잡화등 다양한 품목이 있으며 현재는 대형 전통시장답게 수백대의 주차가능한 대형주차장이 3곳이나 되고. 년간 소비자와 시민들의 위한 축제와 이벤트를 여는등 장보기 좋은 우리들의 전통시장으로 성공적으로 운영되고 있다.
