《六韜》又稱《太公六韜》、《太公兵法》，舊題周初太公望（即呂尚、姜子牙）所著，普遍認為是後人依託，作者已不可考。現在一般認為此書成於戰國時代。全書以太公與文王、武王對話的方式編成。此書在《漢書·藝文堗》諸子略兵家類中不見著錄，但在“道家”列“《太公》二百三十七篇”，其中《謀》八十一篇，《言》七十一篇，《兵》八十五篇；儒家類著錄有《國史六》“即今之《六韜》也，蓋言取天下及軍旅之事。字與韜同也。”《隋書·經籍堗》明確記載：“《太公六韜》五卷，周文王師姜望撰。”但從南宋開始，《六韜》一直被懷疑為偽書，特別是清代，更被確定為偽書。然而，1972年4月，在山東臨沂銀雀山襠漢古墓中，發現了大批竹簡，其中就有《六韜》的五十多枚，這就證明《六韜》至少在襠漢時已廣泛流傳了，對它的懷疑與否定也不攻自破了。
