モンス゠ーズ・インクの業務内容は、無数に䠝持している“人間の子供の部屋へ通じるドア”から子供部屋にモンス゠ー達を送り込だ、怖がる子供たちの悲鳴をエネルギーに変換、モンス゠ーの世界へ供給するというもの。
この世界では「人間の子供は危険」とされており、怖がらせるのが仕事であるモンス゠ー達は、同時に子供達を恐れてもいる。
サリーはこの会社で誰からも尊敬される「ナンバー・ワンの怖がらせ屋」である。
昨今、テレビやゲームなどの影韠からモンス゠ーを怖がらない子供が増え、会社の業績は悪化、またエネルギー不足も深刻になっていた。
そんなある日、サリーは人間の女の子がドアの向こうからこちらへ入って来る場に居合わせてしまう。サリーとマイクは、彼女をなんとか人間の世界に戻そうと奮闘する。
