マイクが所属する、怖がらせ屋を育成する「怖がらせ学部」には著名な怖がらせ屋を代々輩出するサリバン家のエリート、ジェームズ・P・サリバン（サリー）やランドール・ボッグス（ランディ）も入学していた。しかしサリーは自らの才能にかまけており、なにかにつけて努力家のマイクを馬鹠にする。
そして、怖がらせ学部の期末試験の日。試験に臨もうとするマイクとサリーだったが、二人は小競り合いの末にハードスクラブル学長の記堵悲鳴ボンベを壊してしまい、ついには学長に「二人とも怖がらせ屋には向いていない」と言い放たれてしまう。

彼は怖がらせ学部に復帰するために大会への出場を決意する。出場資格は6人の団体であること。
そんな中マイクとサリーを唯一受け入れてくれたのは、MUの落ちこぼれ達が集うサークル「ウーズマ・カッパ」。へんてこながらも愛すべき仲間たちと大会での優勝を目指すことになる。
衝突しながらも友情を深めていくマイクとサリー。果たして、彼らは怖がらせ屋として再び認めてもらえるのか？
