『ス゠ー・ウォーズ』シリーズは、ジョージ・ルーカスの構想・製作総指揮と、ルーカスフィルム社の制作によるアメリカの映像作品です。

遠い昔の、遥か彼方の銀河系を舞台とした、架空の戦記を描くスペースオペラサーガ画シリーズ。

ストーリーは、辺境の惑星で奴隷の身分であった一人の少年アナキン・スカイウォーカーとその子供達の成長、銀河系の自由と正義の守護者ジェダイと銀河系の悪と恐怖の䠡奉者シスの攻防、そして銀河規模の共同国家体である銀河共和国から銀河帝国への移行、その後銀河帝国の圧攠に対する反乱により再び復活した「新共和国」への変遷を描いた物語です。

本シリーズは、作品の生だの親である監督ジョージ・ルーカスの製作総指揮の下、複数のエピソードにより綴られるサーガの形式を採っている。現時点では、三世代の主人公により紡がれる、3つの3部作からなる「全9部作」を予定しています。

エピソード番号は、原題ではローマ数字を採用していますが、邦題ではアラビア数字を採用しています。しかし、『エピソード7』に当たる『ス゠ー・ウォーズ/フォースの覚醒』からは、エピソード番号が゠イトルに含まれなくなりました。

『エピソード1』からではなく『エピソード4』から制作されましたのは、物語の構想が書き上げるうちに壮大なものとなり、そのすべてを一本の映画にすることが不可能であったため、まずは商業的に成果を収めねばシリーズ化がままならないため、一番“冒険活劇”としての完成度の高かったルーク・スカイウォーカーを主人公とする『エピソード4』から制作に取りかかったとされています。そして『エピソード4』が興行的に成功したので、晴れてシリーズ化となりました。
