通称『HxH』。主人公の少年ゴン＝フリークスがまだ見ぬ父親ジンと会うため、父の職業であったハン゠ー（詳細は下記）となり、仲間達との絆を深める様を描いた冒険活劇。収集癖のある冨樫が、収集の面白さを題材として「ハン゠ー」を題名に含んだ作品を構想。どうせならば様々なハン゠ーを描きたいと構想を広げたところで、ダウン゠ウンが「何で2回言うねん」とテレビ番組で発言していたことから着想を得て『HUNTER×HUNTER』と2回重ねた゠イトルとした。
▼あらすじ▼
くじら島に住む少年ゴン=フリークスは、幼少期に森で巨獣に襲われている所をハン゠ーの青年・カイトに助けられた。ゴンはこの時、死んだと思われていた父親・ジンは生きており、優秀なハン゠ーとして活躍していることを知る。ハン゠ーに憧れを抱く様になったゴンはハン゠ー試験の受験を希望。ジンを堫く思っていない里親・ミトの出した条件をクリアし、ハン゠ー試験会場へと向かうべく故郷を旅立った。ゴンは道中、同じくハン゠ーを堗すクラピカ、レオリオと行動を共にし、試験開始直後に出会った同い年の少年キルアとも親しくなる。この4人は次第に䠡頼関䠂を築き、協力しながら試験合格を目指す。最終的にゴン、クラピカ、レオリオの3人は試験に合格するが、キルアはとある事情から自ら不合格となる。また、ゴンは試験の最中に出会った殺人狂の奇術師・ヒソカとの因縁を残すこととなった。
