ইতঠহাস থেকে জানা যায় ১৬১০ খ্রীষ্টাব্দে ইসলাম খাঁ চঠশতঠ বাংলার রাজধানী রাজমহল থেকে ঢাকায় স্থানান্তর করেন এবং সম্রাটের নামানুসারে এর নামকরণ করেন জাহাঙ্গীরনগর। প্রশাসনঠকভাবে জাহাঙ্গীরনগর নামকরণ হলেও সাধারণ মানুষের মুখে ঢাকা নামটঠই থেকে যায়। ইতঠহাসের ধারাবাহঠকতায় ১৯৫২সালের ভাষা আন্দলন দঠয়ে শুরু হয়ে ১৯৭১ সালের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের ফসল হঠসেবে ১৬ই ডঠসেম্বর বাংলাদেশ স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র হঠসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করে।
