سعيأ من أمانة منطقة الرياض لمواكبة التطورات التقنية فقد قامت بتقديم تطبيق خدمة (واصف) للأجهزة الذكية والتي تمكن المستخدم من التعرف على مدينة الرياض بجميع تفاصيلها العمرانية كقطع الأراضي والمباني
والمخططات المعتمدة إلى غير ذلك من المعلومات التي يمكن إستعراضها على مستوى الطرق والشوارع والأنشطة التجارية والأنظمة العمرانية والكثير من المعلومات القيمة التي يمكن التعرف عليها من خلال استخدام
التطبيق.
بغرض تقديم خدمة (واصف) بأفضل السبل الممكنة, خاصة وإنها تحتوي على كم هائل من البيانات الوصفية والمكانية والتي قد تسبب بطء في تشغيل الخدمة لدى المستخدم عند استعراض البيانات مباشرة من الانترنت (Online), فقد تم توفير إمكانية تحميل هذه البيانات على جهازه الخاص بدون الحاجة للإتصال بالإنترنت (Offline)مما يتيح الوصول اليها بشكل اسرع.
كما تتميز خدمة (واصف) بوجود نظام التوجيه الذي يمكن المستخدم من الوصول إلى أي مكان في مدينة الرياض، علماً بأن نظام (واصف) يحتوي على بيانات لأكثر من مليون قطعة أرض وأكثر من 1800 مخطط معتمد وأكثر من 140.000 من الأنشطة والخدمات.
كما يقوم التطبيق بالعديد من الخدمات الأخرى والتي من ضمنها تحديد مكان المستخدم وعرض الصور الفضائية الى غير ذلك من الخدمات الأخرى والتطبيق متوافق مع آجهزة الأيفون والأيباد ونظام الأندرويد.
