في الحديث المتفق عليه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: صلاة الليل مثنى مثنى. كما جاء في الحديث المتفق عليه عن عائشة- رضي الله عنها- قالت: ما كان يزيد في رمضان ولا غيره على إحدى عشرة ركعة، يصلي أربعاً فلا تسأل عن حسنهن وطولهن، ثم يصلي أربعاً فلا تسأل عن حسنهن وطولهن، ثم يصلي ثلاثاً.
وكيفية الجمع بين هذين الحديثين جاء في مجموع الفتاوى للشيخ ابن عثيمين حيث قال: وهنا مسألة وهي: أن بعض الناس فهم من حديث عائشة -رضي الله عنها- حين سئلت كيف كانت صلاة النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ في رمضان؟ فقالت: "ما كان يزيد في رمضان ولا غيره على إحدى عشرة ركعة، يصلي أربعاً فلا تسأل عن حسنهن وطولهن، ثم يصلي أربعاً فلا تسأل عن حسنهن وطولهن، ثم يصلي ثلاثاً" . حيث ظن أن الأربع الأولى بسلام واحد، والأربع الثانية بسلام واحد، والثلاث الباقية بسلام واحد. ولكن هذا الحديث يحتمل ما ذكر، ويحتمل أن مرادها أنه يصلي أربعاً ثم يجلس للاستراحة واستعادة النشاط، ثم يصلي أربعاً. وهذا الاحتمال أقرب أي أنه يصلي ركعتين ركعتين، لكن الأربع الأولى يجلس بعدها ليستريح ويستعيد نشاطه، وكذلك الأربع الثانية يصلي ركعتين ركعتين ثم يجلس ليستريح ويستعيد نشاطه. ويؤيد هذا قوله عليه الصلاة والسلام: "صلاة الليل مثنى مثنى" . فيكون في هذا جمع بين فعله وقوله صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، واحتمال أن تكون أربعاً بسلام واحد وارد لكنه مرجوح؛ لما ذكرنا من أن النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قال: "صلاة الليل مثنى مثنى". انتهى.
