وهو شهر التوبة والمغفرة، وتكفير الذنوب والسيئات، فعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: (الصلوات الخمس، والجمعة إلى الجمعة، ورمضان إلى رمضان، مكفرات لما بينهن إذا اجتنبت الكبائر) رواه مسلم، من صامه وقامه إيماناً بموعود الله، واحتساباً للأجر والثواب عند الله، غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه، ففي "الصحيح" أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: (من صام رمضان إيماناً واحتساباً غُفِر له ما تقدم من ذنبه)، وقال: (من قام رمضان إيماناً واحتساباً غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه)، وقال أيضاً: (من قام ليلة القدر إيماناً واحتساباً غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه). ومن أدركه فلم يُغفر له فقد رغم أنفه وأبعده الله، بذلك دعا عليه جبريل عليه السلام، وأمَّن على تلك الدعوة نبينا صلى الله عليه وسلم، فما ظنك بدعوة من أفضل ملائكة الله، يؤمّن عليها خير خلق الله.
