يضم هذا الكتاب كثيرًا مما انتهى إليه علم المصنف من نَسب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ومولده، ورضاعه، وفصاله، وإقامته في بنى سعد. وما عرض له هنالك من شق الصدر وغيره، ويأتي الكتاب وسطًا بين التطويل والاختصار، غير ممل ولا مخل، ويمتاز بحسن الاختيار، وإن كان المصنف قد أطال في ذكر الإسناد فيه؛ مما دفعه لاختصاره في كتاب آخر سماه: «نور العيون في تلخيص سير الأمين والمأمون».
