عمر البشير

ورئيس حزب المؤتمر الوطني، حيث قاد انقلابا عسكريا على الحكومة الديموقراطية المنتخبة برئاسة رئيس الوزراء المنتخب في تلك الفترة الصادق المهدي وتولى البشير بعد الانقلاب منصب رئيس مجلس قيادة ثورة الإنقاذ الوطني في 30 يونيو 1989، وجمع بين منصب رئيس الحكومة ومنصب رئيس الدولة الشرفي حتى الآن، وفي 26 أبريل 2010 أعيد انتخابه رئيسًا في أول "انتخابات تعددية" منذ استلامه للسلطة.

ولقد تعرض البشير لكثير من الانتقادات والإتهامات من قبل منظمات حقوق الإنسان الدولية خلال السنوات السابقة، حيث أثارت فترة حكمه جدلا واسعا بسبب اشتراك مجندين تابعين لحكومته أو موالين لها في جرائم حرب في البلاد سواء في دارفور أو في جنوب السودان
