Некрасов начал работу над Роэмой «Кому на Руси жить хорошо» в Рервой Роловине 60-х годов XIX века. УРоминание о ссыльных Роляках в Рервой части, в главе «Помещик», Розволяет считать, что работа над Роэмой была начата не ранее 1863 года.
